For certain is death for the born
And certain is birth for the dead;
Therefore over the inevitable
Thou shouldst not grieve. Bhagavad GitaThis memorial website was created to remember our dearest Delores Miller Hegamyer who was born in North Carolina Asheboro, NC on November 4, 1950 and passed away on November 28, 2005. You will live forever in our memories and hearts.
Death Is Nothing at all
By: Henry Scott Holland
Death is nothing at all,
I have only slipped into the next room
I am I and you are you
Whatever we were to each other, that we are still.
Call me by my old familiar name,
Speak to me in the easy way which you always used
Put no difference in your tone,
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow
Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes that we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word that it always was,
Let it be spoken without effect, without the trace of shadow in it.
Life means all that it ever meant.
It is the same as it ever was, there is unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?
I am waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near,
Just around the corner.
All is well.
The poem read by Lorrie Baker Stewart at her mother's memorial service in December, 2005.
If I should die and leave you here awhile,
Be not like others, sore, undone, who keep
Long vigils by the silent dust and weep.
For my sake turn again to life and smile,
Nerving thy heart and trembling hands to do
Something to comfort weaker hearts than thine.
Complete these dear unfinished tasks of mine
And I perchance may therein comfort you.
